African airlines lead global air cargo growth in February — IATA

African airlines recorded the strongest performance in global air cargo demand for February, outpacing all other regions, according to new data released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The report shows that carriers on the continent sustained a strong growth momentum that began at the start of 2026. Industry data indicates that Africa has consistently topped global rankings in recent months, driven by rising trade activity and strengthening market demand.

Globally, air cargo demand remained resilient in February, supported by steady growth in international trade and easing fuel cost pressures. However, performance varied significantly across regions, with Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia‑Pacific all reporting stronger growth compared to the Americas.

Despite the positive near‑term outlook, IATA cautioned that global uncertainties, including geopolitical tensions and shifting trade policies, could weigh on cargo demand in the months ahead.

The latest figures underscore Africa’s growing importance in global air cargo logistics, even as the industry continues to navigate economic and operational challenges.
