Air Peace Aircraft Grounded Following Bird Strike at Kano Airport
An Air Peace aircraft operating a scheduled flight from Abuja to Kano was grounded on Wednesday after sustaining a bird strike upon landing at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.

The airline confirmed the incident and stated that the aircraft was immediately withdrawn from service in accordance with standard aviation safety protocols. Technical assessments are currently underway to evaluate any damage before the plane returns to active duty.

In strict compliance with aviation safety protocols, the affected aircraft has been grounded for comprehensive technical assessments,” Air Peace said in a statement. To minimise disruption, the airline promptly deployed a replacement aircraft to continue operations on the Abuja-Kano route.

Air Peace expressed regret over the inconvenience to passengers and thanked them for their understanding while emphasising that safety remains its top priority. The incident is the latest in a series of bird strikes affecting airline operations in Nigeria in recent months.

Such collisions typically occur during takeoff or landing and, while often minor, can lead to flight delays, operational disruptions, and costly repairs.Aviation experts attribute the rising frequency of bird strikes to environmental factors around Nigerian airports, including open refuse dumps, waste disposal sites, water bodies, and rapid urban development that attract birds to airport corridors.

Despite wildlife hazard management efforts by airport authorities.  such as patrols and bird-control measures,  incidents continue to occur.

Air Peace reiterated its commitment to the highest safety standards and full compliance with regulatory requirements.“We deeply empathise with our esteemed passengers affected by this unforeseen operational disruption,” the airline added.
