APC NWC Waives Screening Requirements for President Tinubu Ahead of Primaries

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has waived the screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, allowing him to participate in the party’s upcoming primary elections without undergoing the standard vetting process.

The decision was taken during the NWC’s 188th meeting held on May 6, 2026. According to a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the waiver was issued under the powers conferred on the NWC by Articles 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the APC Constitution, which permit the committee to organise primaries and grant waivers in special circumstances in the party’s best interest.

The NWC noted that President Tinubu has received overwhelming endorsements from key stakeholders, including the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), the National Assembly leadership, and other party organs. These endorsements were formalised at the APC National Summit of May 22, 2025, and other major statutory events.

The committee further argued that requiring the President, who was already screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries, to appear physically before another screening committee would be redundant and unnecessary.

President Tinubu is deemed duly screened in accordance with the party’s constitution and remains eligible to contest in the upcoming primaries.
