FAAN Confirms Ebola Case in FCT, Heightens Airport Surveillance
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has confirmed a case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Federal Capital Territory and announced heightened surveillance and coordination with health authorities to prevent further transmission.
In a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, FAAN said it was working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other relevant agencies to support national containment efforts. The authority said public health measures, including early case identification and contact tracing, had been initiated after the infection was confirmed.
The Federal Government confirmed the case on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, after laboratory tests identified the virus in a woman who had recently arrived in Nigeria on an international flight from Uganda. The patient is in isolation and receiving medical care at a private hospital in the FCT. According to the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, health officials have identified 44 close contacts for monitoring as investigations continue to determine who may have been exposed.
FAAN said it was maintaining heightened vigilance across airport operations and would continue to align its response with guidance from public health authorities to protect passengers, airport personnel and the wider public.
