Lagos Announces Temporary Road Closures for Infrastructure Commissioning

The Lagos State Government has announced partial road closures on major corridors to facilitate the commissioning of critical infrastructure projects scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the temporary traffic measures are necessary to ensure public safety and the seamless execution of the events. Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys ahead of time and avoid affected routes during the specified periods to minimise disruptions.

According to the statement, the commissioning of the Opebi-Mende Link Bridge will take place on Wednesday, April 8, between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., affecting traffic flow around Opebi-Allen, Ikeja, and Ojota. Road users traversing these areas are encouraged to explore alternative routes to ease congestion.

On Thursday, April 9, two separate commissioning events are scheduled within the same time window of 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The first, involving the Tolu Schools Complex, is expected to affect traffic within Olodi Apapa and Ajegunle. Commuters in these areas are advised to make adequate travel arrangements and allow extra time.

Later that day, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., another high-profile event will take place at Eko Hotel and its surrounding corridors in Victoria Island. Motorists are advised to avoid the area or anticipate significant delays.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, alongside other traffic management agencies, will deploy personnel across affected routes to manage vehicular movement and provide assistance. The statement noted that additional traffic officers have been mobilised for the events, which are expected to attract high-level attendance, including President Bola Tinubu.
