Lagos Secures Community Backing for Ketu Modern Bus Terminal Project
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has obtained stakeholder endorsement for the transformation of the Ketu Lay-by (Demurin bound) into a modern bus terminal, a move officials say will ease chronic congestion and enhance commuter experience along the Ketu corridor.
The agreement was reached during a meeting with Agboyi-Ketu community leaders where plans for the Quality Bus Corridor Package 1 were finalised.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, said the terminal on the Ketu–Alapere–Akanimodo corridor would address persistent traffic gridlock while creating a safer and more organised public transport environment.
Musa, represented by Director of Transport Policy and Coordination Aderounmu Agbomeji, stressed that the project's success hinges on sustained collaboration between the government and the host community.
He disclosed that a formal agreement will be signed to enforce operational guidelines, including the relocation of traders from road setbacks into designated market stalls to improve safety and traffic flow. Unregulated transport operators will also be restricted to approved loading and off-loading zones to prevent the return of gridlock.
"The Ketu Modern Bus Terminal forms part of the state's strategic transport master plan aimed at delivering an integrated, multimodal system that connects road, rail, and water transportation," Musa stated.
Project Manager Femi Fayombo confirmed that contractors are ready to mobilise to site, noting that the terminal represents an expansion of the original project scope which the state government prioritised to boost transport efficiency and improve residents' quality of life.
