LAMATA Clears Final Hurdle for Ketu Bus Terminal as Community Leaders Pledge Support
Plans to replace the chaotic Ketu Lay-by with a modern bus terminal moved into execution phase Thursday after the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority secured the formal backing of Agboyi-Ketu community leaders and traditional authorities.
The Quality Bus Corridor Package 1 project covers the Ketu–Alapere–Akanimodo corridor, with the Demurin-bound lay-by slated for transformation into a structured transport hub. Officials say the terminal will decongest one of Lagos State's most notorious traffic chokepoints.
Oba Isiaka Balogun, the Oba of Ketu-Kosofe, led the community delegation at the high-stakes engagement. Local government officials present included Agboyi-Ketu LCDA Vice Chairman Ganiu Fatai, Secretary Tajudeen Akinyemi, and Legislative Leader Aderoju Adekunle, alongside ward councillors and youth representatives.
Femi Fayombo, briefing stakeholders on behalf of the project team, confirmed contractors are ready to begin work. He acknowledged that adding a full terminal exceeded the original corridor design but said the state government approved the expansion as a targeted intervention for the Ketu axis.
S.A. Agbomeji, Director of Transport Policy and Coordination, represented the Ministry of Transportation's Permanent Secretary. He outlined the operational terms, which include a signed agreement committing market women and roadside traders to vacate thoroughfares and occupy designated stalls. Informal transport operators must also use approved loading zones.
"Mutual agreement between the government and this community is the foundation of this project," Agbomeji said. "Without it, we build infrastructure that is immediately overrun."
The terminal forms part of the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan, a long-term framework designed to integrate bus rapid transit, rail lines, and waterways into a single urban mobility network.
