LASDRI Expands Footprint with New Driver Training Centres in Oshodi, Apapa
The Lagos State Drivers Institute (LASDRI) has inaugurated two additional training facilities in Oshodi and Apapa, responding to growing demand for structured driver education and road safety training in the state.
The new centres are situated at the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Secretariat and at 5, Adele Road, off Warehouse Road, Apapa. During an inspection of the facilities, LASDRI General Manager Afusat Tiamiyu said the locations were deliberately chosen to address the high vehicular density and challenging traffic conditions characteristic of both corridors.
“Motorists operating in these areas require specialised training to navigate dense traffic safely, avoid accidents, and remain compliant with traffic regulations,” Tiamiyu stated. She noted that the institute is under increasing pressure to deliver comprehensive instruction covering vehicle handling, defensive driving techniques, and a thorough grounding in traffic rules.
Tiamiyu stressed that formal driver education is critical for helping motorists master road signs, lane discipline, and traffic laws, thereby reducing the risk of sanctions and vehicle impoundment. Professional training, she added, sharpens hazard perception and spatial awareness, skills that are particularly vital for safe interaction with articulated trucks and heavy-duty vehicles common around the Apapa axis.
Describing Oshodi and Apapa as key commercial and transportation hubs, the LASDRI chief pointed to the complexities of Bus Rapid Transit lanes, the behaviour of commercial bus operators, and unpredictable traffic patterns. She said the centres would be staffed by experienced instructors capable of teaching motorists how to anticipate erratic driving and navigate congested roads safely.
Director Munirudeen Bajulaiye disclosed that each new facility can accommodate approximately 25 trainees per session and includes administrative offices and convenience spaces.
The expansion signals LASDRI’s push to broaden access to professional driver training and reinforce road safety culture across Lagos.
