Max Air pays N182m refunds to 956 passengers in Q2 – NCAA
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has revealed that Max Air refunded N182.1 million to 956 travellers between April and June 2026, as the regulator keeps up pressure on airlines to honour passenger rights.
In a Tuesday post on its X page, the NCAA commended the airline for making the payments but urged it to speed up the process, noting that refund claims should be settled promptly under Part 19 of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations 2023.
The authority said the airline paid out N182,099,018.88 in ticket refunds during the second quarter.
"We appreciate this, but we expect quicker handling of passenger refund claims going forward," the NCAA stated, reaffirming its commitment to protecting travellers and enforcing compliance.
The announcement comes amid a broader push by the regulator to enforce consumer protection rules and improve service standards across Nigeria's aviation sector. In recent months, the NCAA has stepped up oversight, publishing performance data and warning operators that breaches of refund and compensation rules would attract sanctions.
On December 24, 2025, the NCAA ranked Max Air as the domestic carrier with the second-highest flight delay rate during the period, after Air Peace. It followed up with a warning that airlines failing to meet consumer protection obligations would face consequences.
The NCAA has consistently argued that strict enforcement is key to holding airlines accountable and ensuring passengers get what they are entitled to under the law.
It also encouraged passengers to report delayed refunds or other rights violations through its official complaint channels, assuring the public that it will continue to monitor operators closely.
