MMA2: Bi-Courtney Cites Congestion, Long-Term Parking as Reason for Fee Hike
The operator of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) in Lagos, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services, has explained that the recent increase in multi‑storey car park fees is aimed at reducing congestion, discouraging long‑term parking, and freeing up space for legitimate airport users.
In a statement issued on Monday, the company said MMA2 has maintained strong safety and security records among Nigeria’s airport terminals through effective monitoring, access control, and proactive management of facilities – including the car park. However, increasing numbers of long‑stay vehicles have placed additional operational and security pressures on the terminal.
“Prolonged parking has created operational challenges and reduced space for legitimate users at the multi‑storey car park. Over time, the facility has been used for long stays, sometimes days, months or years, reducing availability for passengers,” the statement read.
According to Bi‑Courtney, passengers sometimes spend more than 30 minutes searching for parking, leading to missed flights and delays. Congestion has also built up around terminal drop‑off and pick‑up zones, affecting traffic flow and the overall passenger experience.
The company stressed that the revised tariff is not revenue‑driven but an operational necessity to restore order, reduce congestion, and ensure safety and efficiency.
Under the new fee structure, saloon cars now pay N3,500 for the first hour (up from N2,500) and N2,500 for subsequent hours. SUVs pay N4,000 for the first hour (up from N3,500) and N2,500 for subsequent hours. Buses are charged N20,000 for overnight parking, while a lost ticket attracts a N25,000 fee.
