MMIA Records Fastest Growing Air Traffic in Africa – FAAN

The Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, recorded the fastest-growing air traffic in Africa in 2025, according to the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

In a statement on the authority’s performance review, the FAAN chief disclosed that the airport witnessed a substantial increase in both passenger volume and aircraft movement over the course of the year. The growth positions MMIA as a leading aviation hub on the continent, reflecting Nigeria’s rising significance in regional and international air travel.

The surge in traffic has been attributed to ongoing improvements in airport infrastructure, enhanced operational efficiency, and increased activities by domestic and international airlines. Lagos, being a major gateway for passengers and cargo, continues to play a central role in the country’s aviation sector.

The FAAN Managing Director noted that sustained investments and policy reforms within the aviation industry have contributed to the steady rise in traffic. He added that efforts are being intensified to further elevate service delivery, safety standards, and the overall passenger experience.
