NAHCO truck rams Air Peace jet at Lagos airport, grounds aircraft

An Air Peace Airbus A320 was left unfit to fly Tuesday after a NAHCO baggage belt truck crashed into its engine at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1.

The airline said the collision occurred just after passengers from Flight P47427, arriving from Kano, had safely left the plane. The impact sliced into the engine section, putting the aircraft out of commission.

According to a source who spoke with Daily Sun, the truck driver collapsed behind the wheel moments before the crash. He has since been taken to the FAAN clinic for treatment.

Air Peace noted that the grounded jet had been scheduled for multiple flights across its network in the days ahead. With one less aircraft in rotation, the carrier expects delays and cancellations as it scrambles to adjust its schedule.

The airline apologized to passengers and said it is offering alternate flights and assistance to those caught up in the disruption. It also confirmed it is coordinating with NAHCO and aviation authorities to establish what went wrong and how to avoid a repeat.

In its statement, the airline described the incident as an unforeseen ground handling mishap and stressed that its teams are doing everything possible to reduce the impact on travelers.
