NCAA, Nigerian Army Forge Alliance to Strengthen Security at Abuja Airport

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and the Nigerian Army have agreed to deepen collaboration aimed at enhancing security at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, following a high‑level meeting between officials of both institutions.

A delegation from the 176 Presidential Guards Battalion, led by its Commanding Officer Lt. Colonel Oladimeji Ajongbo, paid a courtesy visit to the NCAA headquarters to reaffirm the military’s commitment to safeguarding the airport. The visit underscored a shared resolve to coordinate efforts on patrols, intelligence gathering, and joint security operations.

Welcoming the delegation, NCAA Director General Capt. Chris Najomo described the renewed synergy as timely, emphasizing that aviation security is a collective responsibility that demands robust inter‑agency cooperation. He commended the Nigerian Army for its professionalism and dedication to national security, while reiterating that the NCAA remains unwavering in its regulatory oversight of aviation security through the National Civil Aviation Security Committee.

“Security at our airports cannot be the responsibility of a single entity. Strong partnerships like this are essential to maintaining the highest safety standards,” Najomo said.

In his remarks, Lt. Col. Ajongbo reaffirmed the Army’s readiness to support the protection of the nation’s premier airport, noting that sustained collaboration would enhance response capabilities and intelligence sharing.

Dr. Bernard Omogo, Director of Aviation Security Regulation (DAVSEC) at NCAA, also spoke at the meeting, pledging the Authority’s full regulatory backing to ensure seamless coordination with the military and other security stakeholders.

The partnership signals a renewed focus on fortifying critical aviation infrastructure, with both agencies committing to sustained joint efforts to safeguard passengers, personnel, and facilities at the Abuja airport.
