NCAA Reports Significant Drop in Flight Delays and Cancellations on Domestic Routes
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced a marked reduction in flight delays and cancellations across domestic routes in recent months.
Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, described the trend as impressive and encouraging. He attributed the improvement to post-festive season operational stabilisation and a natural decline in passenger traffic.
Nevertheless, Achimugu warned travellers to expect possible weather-related disruptions as the rainy season sets in across the country.
Speaking at an event marking Ethiopian Airlines' 80th anniversary in Lagos, he noted that the recent Aircraft Acquisition Summit convened by the Aviation Minister had drawn fresh attention to the development of Nigeria's aviation sector.
Achimugu said the NCAA has simplified its passenger feedback system. While some travellers are effectively using the online complaint portal, others still face challenges navigating it. He reminded the public that email and social media platforms remain available alternatives for lodging complaints.
On the findings of a recent fare report by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Achimugu stated: "The FCCPC did not submit reports to my office. So, I don't know what they found out. All I know is that in December, I disagreed with the reason for the hike in airfares as stated by some operators."
