NRC Suspends Kajola–Apapa Train Service for 21 Days to Undergo Maintenance

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced a 21-day suspension of its Kajola - Apapa (BAT) train service, effective July 6, to allow for scheduled maintenance of locomotives and coaches. The last passenger train service before the temporary halt will depart on July 3, the corporation confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday.

The NRC clarified that freight operations to and from the Apapa Port Complex, as well as other train terminals on both narrow and standard gauge corridors, will continue without interruption throughout the maintenance period. To cushion the effect of the suspension on commuters, the corporation has advised passengers to utilise its Lagos Mass Transit Train (LMTT) services, which operate every weekday from Monday to Friday.

Under the LMTT schedule, morning services depart Ijoko at 6:30 a.m. and Kajola at 7:00 a.m. for Iddo, while evening return services leave Iddo at 5:30 p.m. for Ijoko and 6:15 p.m. for Kajola. The NRC encouraged passengers to take advantage of these alternative services during the maintenance window.

Explaining the rationale behind the exercise, NRC Managing Director, Dr Kayode Opeifa, stated that the maintenance is essential to ensure the safety, reliability, and efficiency of train operations. He expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience, understanding, and continued patronage, while reaffirming the corporation's commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient rail transportation across the country.
