NSIB, Sierra Leone counterpart deepen aviation safety collaboration

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and the Sierra Leone Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening aviation safety collaboration across West Africa.

The agreement covers joint accident investigations, data sharing, and capacity building between the two countries. Under the partnership, both agencies will exchange technical expertise, participate in joint training programmes, and provide mutual support during investigations. The arrangement also facilitates the sharing of safety data, access to investigative equipment, and cooperation in flight recorder analysis.

Speaking on the development, NSIB Director-General Alex Badeh Jr. described the MoU as a strategic step toward strengthening investigative capacity and improving aviation safety outcomes across the sub‑region. His counterpart, Sierra Leone’s Commissioner Olubunmi Wellington, called the partnership a milestone that would provide access to advanced training and improved investigative methods.

The agreement aligns with international aviation standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and reinforces ongoing cooperation among West African countries under regional frameworks. It reflects growing efforts within the region to enhance aviation safety through collaboration, shared expertise, and stronger institutional capacity.
