Pi-CNG operators must comply with reduced fares, says CEO
The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV) has reaffirmed that all participating transport operators are required to maintain reduced fares nationwide, according to its Executive Chairman, Ismaeel Ahmed.
Speaking on Sunday amid passenger complaints in the Federal Capital Territory, Ahmed acknowledged that some airport taxis and commercial buses have failed to adhere to agreed fare structures. He noted that all operators signed agreements committing to reduced pricing.
Monitoring teams have been deployed, and passenger reporting channels established. However, Ahmed admitted enforcement challenges persist, particularly when oversight personnel are absent. “Once we are not there, people increase their prices,” he said, adding that similar issues occur across Nigeria.
Verified complaints have been investigated and resolved, though manpower constraints limit broader enforcement. The initiative is expanding coverage to routes such as Kubwa and working with strategic partners to improve compliance.
Ahmed also called on the media to support public awareness and monitoring efforts.
