President Tinubu to Inaugurate Gateway Airport, Airline, and Other Projects in Ogun State
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will undertake an official visit to Ogun State today to inaugurate the Gateway International Airport in Iperu and a series of other major infrastructure projects, the state government has announced.
According to a statement by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the President’s itinerary includes the inauguration of the Gateway International Airport, which is designed to position Ogun State as a key aviation and logistics hub in Nigeria. Within the airport complex, President Tinubu will also commission two newly acquired aircraft under the Gateway Air initiative, operated in partnership with ValueJet, marking the official launch of the state’s aviation programme.
The President will further witness a cargo operations demonstration by the Skyway Aviation Handling Company Limited (SAHCOL), indicating the airport’s readiness for full-scale freight and logistics activities. In addition, several strategic assets will be inaugurated at the airport, including 1,000 electric bicycles under the state’s electric mobility initiative, 80 security vehicles to strengthen safety infrastructure, and a fleet of agricultural tractors designed to enhance food production and support farmers.
Beyond the aviation sector, President Tinubu will inaugurate the Ilishan–Iperu Airport Road, a critical link connecting the new airport to neighbouring communities and improving accessibility. He is also scheduled to inspect the Nigeria Customs Service Village and inaugurate the Forward Operating Base building, which is intended to reinforce border security and facilitate trade.
The visit will also feature the inspection and inauguration of the Gateway Aviation Village, a complementary development aimed at supporting the state’s growing aviation ecosystem. In a symbolic move, the President will inaugurate the reconstructed Old Ibadan Road, also known as the Sapade–Ilishan Road, which has been officially renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway. That route is expected to significantly boost connectivity and commerce within the region.
To conclude the visit, President Tinubu will inspect the Sagamu–Benin Concrete Road, a major federal infrastructure project designed to improve transport efficiency along one of Nigeria’s busiest corridors.
Collectively, these projects reflect the vision of the Ogun State Government under Governor Dapo Abiodun to build a modern, economically vibrant, and well-connected state. The President’s visit not only marks the unveiling of these transformative initiatives but also reinforces the collaborative synergy between federal and state governments in advancing sustainable development.
