Sanwo-Olu Confirms Red Line Rail Extension to Ogun State Under Regional Transport Integration Plan

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has confirmed that the Lagos State Government is advancing plans to extend the Red Line rail corridor into Ogun State as part of a broader strategy to ease interstate congestion and strengthen regional connectivity.

The governor disclosed that discussions are ongoing to push the rail service beyond its current Agbado terminal, noting that the expansion is designed to improve mobility for the growing number of commuters traveling between Lagos and neighbouring Ogun communities.

"The Red Line is designed as a high-capacity corridor expected to transport up to 500,000 passengers daily when fully operational," Sanwo-Olu said, emphasising its role in serving the Lagos-Ogun commuter belt.

The Red Line project is being executed in phases. The first phase, already operational, runs from Oyingbo to Agbado. Construction is currently underway on the second phase, which will extend the route to Marina where it will interface with the Blue Line rail system, creating a unified urban rail network.

The governor explained that the proposed Ogun extension forms part of an integrated transport strategy combining rail, road, and water systems to improve mobility across Lagos and adjoining areas.
